At last, it is announced at Monday Morning Training formation that, starting this Saturday morning, there will be an Inspection every Saturday morning which will include; personal, weapon and barracks after which for those who pass, a weekend pass all the way to 0500 hours the next Monday morning.
OK, the Field First Sgt. tells us, this means every "Friday night G.I. party" everyone restricted on Friday night to preparing which includes scrubbing clean, the walls and floors and all personal belongings including ones self, to be ready for Saturday Morning.
I couldn't help but notice Leroy who always was ahead of everyone else in well organized foot and wall locker layouts, well starched uniforms, shined shoes, brass and clean rifle and too, was always helping
the others who lagged behind in their preparation, shining their brass and shoes all
with a smile on his face. That was Leroy was always helping someone or picking up
trash throughout our area of responsibility.
And on Saturday morning, of course, everyone passes, we'd kill anyone who didn't,
because if one failed, the whole squad would be restricted and "no pass" too.
Thanks Leroy, you are quite a guy. After every Friday night barracks clean-up,
Leroy would walk through out the whole place cleaning little spaces that was missed
or or overlooked, never complaining or critisizing any one, just picking up and
looking after the rest of us, always with a smile on his face, that was Leroy.

Friday G.I. Party

We loaded on the beautiful Plane and couldn't help but notice the sweet perfumy smell of the comfortable looking seats and beautiful hostess girls all greeting us with big smiles, as I started slipping in a dual seat space Leroy slipped his small frame passed me and sat at the window seat saying, "I need to wave good bye to my Mom as we fly over Kaimuki". we laughed and he said, " just kidding brah, you can have the window". and I said, "no, seat down and be quite". The girls were real pros, making us all feel like we were someone special circulating throughout the flight making small talk with every one. We got to know everyone of them and their family history.
We landed on Johnson Island and I thought we were going to over-run it and wind-up on the other side in the sea. We rushed to what we were a quick lunch while the plane refuelled and found out it was still Breakfast time so settled for Bacon and Eggs. We agai landed on another Island this time Midway and again thought it was lunch before realizing it was still Breakfast, you guessed it, Bacon and Eggs again.
The flight attendants or hostesses as they were then called started passing around whiskey and vodka miniature bottles to everyone as we drank and became merrymen, some of them casanovas as they were pulling them on their laps and kissing up a storm, Leroy and I, both were shy guys and wasn't so aggressive, besides, we were both thinking and talking about Betty Lou as she told us was her full name as we kissed on every time we were called on "Alert" as we took advantage even though we knew it was only a training exersise, good thing because we never got to see her and get a kiss as it turned out. I asked Leroy was he thinking of Betty Lou too and He replied, "I don't know who I love more, your sister Virginia or Betty Lou and we both busted-out laughing. I never had the heart to tell him my sister was married so he never knew.
